Attendance Improvement Mediation Training

Twenty-four (24) hours of interactive training led by an experienced mediator and trainer is a balanced mix of lecture, practice, and energizers to keep the pace moving· Training lectures include discussion of:

  • issues surrounding truancy
  • South Carolina laws and regulations relating to truancy
  • School practices used to Improve attendance
  • the Mediation Process
  • Conflict theory
  • Conflict resolution skills

Participants who complete the training will receive a certificate of completion in Attendance Improvement Mediation (A.I.M.). Training is free but a $25.00 deposit is required.  After completion of three mediation sessions the deposit will be refunded.

About the Trainer
Mary Ann Joseph Lumpkin, Founder and Director
has an MA in Conflict Resolution and BA in elementary education from Columbia College. She taught for four years in an inner-city school with a 98% at risk population in Columbia, South Carolina. Mary Ann has devoted five years researching, developing, and implementing the highly successful Truancy Mediation Program. She has extensive experience in program design, implementation, analysis, and evaluation. She is a certified mediator and facilitator with over 150 hours of training experience.

About the Program
A.I.M. was developed by Conflict Solutions, LLC a Columbia-based company specializing in conflict resolution programs for educational settings. This successful program currently runs in three school districts of South Carolina, one of which collaborates with the Community Mediation Center of Columbia.
